Jerry Thurman

Rushville

Jerry M. Thurman passed away on May 26, 2022 at 11:55 am at Heritage Manor in Beardstown IL.

He was born on July 17,1932 the son of the late Willis and Gertrude (Thompson) Thurman.  He married Jeanne Fuqua on June 1, 1951.  She preceded him in death on August 26, 2015.

He is survived by his children; Jacqueline (Brian) Sittley of South Bend, IN, Janet (Joe) Royer of Macomb, IL, Jeffrey Thurman, Jon (Lorrie) Thurman all of Rushville, IL, and Judy (John) Karl of Athens, IL, nine grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren, and step-great-great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and one sister-in-law; Joanne Grate.

He was preceded in death by sisters-in-law Mary Downs, Lillian Ross, Laura Toland, Marjorie Tolle Beghtol; brothers-in-law Harlan Downs, Winfield Ross, Charles Toland, JR Tolle, Eldon Beghtol, and Junior Grate; niece, Linda Barker; nephews, Bill and Ed Tolle, Richard Toland, and Tom Ross.

Jerry attended schools in Rock Island, IL, Virginia, IL, and graduated high school at Rushville, IL in 1950.

Jerry worked various jobs before starting his furniture store in 1965, Jerry’s Town & Country Furniture (later called Jerry’s Furniture).  He operated the furniture store for over 25 years.  Later he sold lamps and tables wholesale to retail businesses in five states.  He later became an avid woodworker selling his wares in various flea markets as well as making pieces for his children.

His favorite pastime was watching NASCAR races on TV.  In his younger years he raced go-karts with his brother-in-law, Junior Grate.

He’s known for his long-winded storytelling.  Ask anyone who knew him!

Visitation and Funeral Service:  Family will receive friends from 9:30-11:00am on Tuesday, May 31, 2022 at Triplett & Wood Funeral Home in Rushville.  Funeral services will follow at 11:00am.

Burial will take place at Rushville City Cemetery.

Memorials can be made to Cass-Schuyler Hospice or CMH Foundation.
