Dale Abbott, 102, of Rushville, formerly of Macomb, passed away at 6:40 PM, Friday, January 5, 2018, at the Rushville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Rushville.

He was born on May 1, 1915, in Fulton County, Illinois, the son of David C. and Rhoda May (Trone) Abbott.  He first married Lavern Bricker on June 1, 1937 in Bloomington, Illinois.  She preceded him in death on March 21, 1997.  He later married Esther (Croxton) Vaughn on November 22, 1998 at the Littleton United Methodist Church in Littleton.  She preceded him in death on June 17, 2014.

Surviving are his son Eugene Abbott and wife Dorothy of Delavan, two step sons Danny Vaughn and wife Dana of Herrin and Dave Vaughn and wife Nita of Roxboro, North Carolina, three grandchildren, seven step grandchildren, two great grandchildren, six step great grandchildren, one sister Rosalee Kotter of Rushville.  He was preceded in death by his parents, both wives, three brothers Orson Abbott, Oliver Abbott and Carson Abbott and one sister Edna Lashbrook.

Dale first farmed with his dad and uncle.  He was a postal carrier in the post offices in Frederick, Quincy and Macomb for 59 years retiring in June 2002.  He had also drove a delivery route for Prairie Farms for 12 years and operated Abbott’s Repair Shop in Macomb for 40 years.

He was a member of the Astoria Church of the Brethren and attended the Littleton United Methodist Church.

Services will be at 10:30 AM, Tuesday, January 9, 2018, at the Wood Funeral Home in Rushville, with Reverend Rob Kirkham officiating.  Interment will follow in the Astoria Cemetery in Astoria.  Visitation will be from 9:30 to 10:30 AM, Tuesday, at the Wood Funeral Home in Rushville.  Memorials are suggested to the Littleton United Methodist Church.
